Bulgarian property purchasers and keen international golfers have been buying golf property on the new Bulgarian golf courses Those who have already bought, those who are avid fans of the sport, and those who are tempted to invest in Bulgarian golf property, will be thrilled by this article. We review the recent first ever professional golf event in Bulgaria at BlackSeaRama together with some unique up to date pictures of the stunning Thracian Cliffs links golf course - both never seen before!A small piece of Bulgarian sporting history was made over the days of July when the first professional golf event was held at the BlackSeaRama course near Balchik on the Black Sea coast north of Varna. Eighteen professional golfers competed with their amateur teams in the first Bulgarian PGA Golf Pro Am.The professional golfers travelled from as far afield as Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, Romania, UK and South Africa and were joined by four professional golfers from Bulgaria. For the uninitiated, a 'Pro Am' event is effectively a competition within a competition with the respective amateur teams captained by a professional player, with each team battling it out against each other whilst, running in a tandem competition the professional golfers have their own strokeplay competition between one another. The winning teams receive non cash prizes whilst the professionals battle it out for prize money.
Familiarity certainly seems to have its benefits as several of the winners came from or played golf locally. The winning team prize was made up of Romanians Bruno Negoita, Dinu Piscariu and Dan Pazara and whose home course is BlackSeaRama. The team was captained by South African based English professional Neil Cheetham. Second team was the Bulgarian team of Hristo Chepishev, Todor Krastev, and Emil Kaloyanov, captained by Pirin Golf Club (Bansko) professional Nikolay Stanev. Third place went to another Bulgarian team comprising of Ivo Bojkov, Alex Evtimov and Teodor Todorov and captained by resident BlackSeaRama professional Neil Turley.
