Berbatov To Open Soccer School In Bulgarian Village
Dimitar Berbatov, captain of Bulgaria's national football team and erstwhile Tottenham Hotspur striker, wants to open a soccer school in the Bulgarian village of Lozen near Sofia, local zagrada.bg reported.
Berbatov was said to have met with Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov on May 19 to discuss his plans. The striker's foundation, which carries his name, aims to promote sports as an alternative to aggression and addiction in youths.
Berbatov wanted to use the local stadium, which was municipal property, for this sports school. Borissov was said to have promised his cooperation to realise the sports school, but also to find housing for the Berbatov foundation where a study hall was to be set up.
The Dimitar Berbatov foundation was registered on April 7 2008, zagrada.bg said. Earlier on May 19, local media reported that Berbatov would be the new face of Bulgarian First Investment Bank (FIBank). FIBank refused to comment on details of the contract.
