The town is the second largest and most significant Bulgarian port on the Danube (after Rousse) and is a railway terminus. Lom is famous for its amazing neo-renaissance architecture and its beaches on the Danube River. The town is also the first to build a Community Centre in Bulgaria in the 19th century. Major industries include beer and wine production. There are a number of museums, many monuments and a large park in the north part of the town.
