Bordered on the north by the municipalities Vurbitsa and Smiadovo, on the west - Kotel municipality, southwest - with Straldzha Municipality, in the south - with the municipality of Burgas and the east - with Ruen Municipality. The total area is 795.5 square kilometers, which is 10.6 percent of the region. It is the second largest in area and occupies 26th place in the territory of the country. Includes a total of 28 settlements; administrative center - the town Sungurlare and 27 villages. Larger settlements with a population of over 800 villages are Manolich, Saedinenie and Lozarevo. Much of the area is sparsely populated. At the end of 2012, the population numbered 12,559 people. The municipality Sungurlare is a rich combination of mountainous and flat terrain. The average altitude is 352.7 meters area covers part of the Eastern Balkan Mountains and the valley of the river Kamchia and northern Karnobatsko field upstream of Mochuritsa. North includes the southern slopes of the Kotel - Varbishki Stara Planina (800 m). The municipality has a varied topography, and therefore the individual stations observed a marked difference in the pattern of climatic elements. However, the region as a whole is characterized by a very mild climate, expressed best in winter, when temperatures in January was positive - for the lowest places 0 ° and the highest from 0 ° to 1 ° C. The average minimum temperature is (-3 °) (- 4 °) C and, in the higher parts of -5 ° C. Climatic resources of the municipality Sungurlare in its diversity, offering ample opportunities for bioclimatic and economic development. They favor the cultivation of cereals and vineyards, as yields are relatively high and stable. The soils are a major natural resource for a significant part of the municipality. Water resources of the municipality are represented by ground and surface waters. In hydrological terms territory is drained by Luda resort and Mochuritsa.
Dominated by narrow river valleys and numerous ravines that flow into them. The flow of watercourses is insufficient and often dry up in summer. The largest river in a Kamchia with built dam "Kamchiya" which serves as drinkable. It supplies drinking water - mostly of Burgas and Varna. On its territory there are 46 dams.
Forests cover an area of 393,000 acres, about 240 000 of them are owned by the municipality Municipality. They are managed by the State Forestry in village Sadovo and Karnobat town. Coniferous forests - 99 300 ha are represented by pine and fir, while deciduous - 84 000 ha prevailing species are oak, beech and maple. Forest pastures are nearly 20,000 acres. State forestry in village Sadovo maintain 92 acres forest nursery, which are around 2000 saplings. Afforested annually nearly 2,000 acres of new forests.

On February 14, 2006 in the basement of the Museum was opened icon collection - icons from the middle of the XVIII century church "St. Archangel Michael" Kostel, which in 1792-94 was served Sophronius of Vratsa.

Sungurlare emerged and developed as a crossroads settlement. In his village there are remains of an ancient settlement that was inhabited during the late Iron Age and during the Roman occupation. Near it there are several large Thracian burial mounds. In the land of the city have found pottery and Roman imperial coins. Information on Sungurlare under the names Syongurlare and Songurlar is in Turkish records of XVI century, 44 families from Sungurlare (240) emigrated to the Ukraine and founded a colony (today Nikolaevka, Crimea).
