Elin Pelin PropertiesElin Pelin municipality covers an area of 433,049 square kilometers in the central part of Sofia. Center of the municipality is the town of Elin Pelin, located 24 km east of the capital Sofia. Common border with Sofia Municipality is over 40 km. Except with the Sofia municipality, Municipality Elin Pelin borders also with Svoge, Botevgrad, Gorna Malina, Ichtiman and Samokov.
In the Municipality Elin Pelin cross the main roads of the country - highway "Hemus" highway "Trakia" and road № 6 /Burgas motor road/. Two of the main train pass there too- Sofia - Bourgas highway and the European Kalotina - Sofia - Plovdiv - Svilengrad.
In the Municipality Elin Pelin pass oil pipeline and gas pipeline for the country. The main factor that influences the development of the municipality is its proximity to the capital. Natural development of the city Sofia and the gradual expansion as the onceindependent municipalityit becomes metropolitan element of "big" Sofia and development of the municipality is subject to both the development of the region and the development of a large metropolitan city.
Elin Pelin municipality occupies the eastern part of Sofia field and located by the north slopes of Stara Planina Mountain and south -southeast Sredna gora.
The relief is high plain, hilly and mountainous. Very well developed valley- bottom, which is located between 539 m and 600 m above sea level. For the municipality of Elin Pelin mountain peak is Mount Murgash - 1687 m.
Common border with Sofia Municipality is over 40 km. Besides Sofia Municipality Elin Pelin borders Svoge Botevgrad, Gorna Malina, Ichtiman and Samokov. In the municipality passes the so-called of Trayanov drum from II century. By village of Lesnovo near the Roman road (from III century) was found great road station called Buragara. Again there were found remains of a Slavic settlement, three km south of the village of Novi Han are poorly preserved ruins of a Thracian settlement wall. At several places in the west of the village are the remains of Roman settlements.
Sofia plain was a center of peoples and cultures, as it passed through important roads connecting Asia to Western Europe. Numerous traces of ancient settlements and fortresses built along them. In the municipality passes the so-called Highway of Trayanov since II century. Thracian settlements and burial mounds and finds in them evidence of high spiritual and material culture. Roman and Byzantine culture also left significant traces.
Some villages of the municipality survived almost the same place since the Second Bulgarian Empire until today. From this period is preserved church "St. Nikolai" in Stolnik. Near Eleshnitsa was located Bulgarian fortress destroyed during the invasion of the Turks. 4 km from the same village is Eleshnitsa monastery, which is one of the monasteries of the so -called Minor Sofia Sveta Gora, built in XV century, XVI-XVIII century it was a bustling literary center. In the church "Virgin Mary" are preserved wall paintings from the XVI and XIX century. In XVIII century there was a monastery school. In Doganovo is the oldest monastery school (1835). Because of the flat terrain and proximity to the Circassian villages and large Turkish garrison in Sofia locals take little part in the April Uprising. After the uprising Rakovitza large village was looted and burned, and the leaders of the rebels were sent in Diyarbakir.
Elin Pelin region is one of the best preserved centers of ethno cultural community Shoppe - a typical hard speech white clothing, typical folk dances, songs and humor. Traditions of local populations find their expression of Shope annual celebration in the town of Elin Pelin, held since 1970.
Even during the Renaissance the village Novoseltsi (now the town of Elin Pelin) is gradually becoming a natural cultural and commercial center for nearby villages. In 1881 it was declared a county center of Royal Bulgaria. Major role in its development played the construction of the railway line Sofia - Saranbey (Septemvri) and the creation of the first ceramic factory in the country, located 4 km south of the present town. Over time strengthens the economics of the town. At the end of XIX century have created class school and community center, which work to promote culture and education of the population in the region. In 1950 the village was renamed from Novoseltsi to Elin Pelin. In 1960 it was declared a town.
From the Second Bulgarian Empire was preserved the church "St. Nikolai" in village of Stolnik. In the village of Novi Han preserved a wall of Turkish caravanserai /inn/ built in XVII century. Among other attractions of the municipality are: religious school in Doganovo, built in 1835, the monument to the fallen soldiers from the Botev rebels army near the village Eleshnitsa; monastery "St. Dimitar" by village of Gabra since1867; Ravnopolska monastery.
Cultural monuments on the territory of the municipality are about 85 in number.
Elin Pelin municipality is classified as a potential for the development of rural tourism.

Ognyanovo Dam lake creates excellent conditions for the development of water and water sports, but is currently looking for investors to build adequate tourist facilities. In the area of Ravno pole village there is a modern golf course "St. Sofia".

Land is suitable to grow any kind of plants. In this area the soils are suitable for berries and fruit, beans, crops and etc.
Natural and climatic conditions and existing traditions create favorable conditions for the development of the industry in the municipality. Livestock develop in personal holdings as mainly raising cows, sheep, goats and pigs. Determine the number of negative trend of reducing the number of animals as well as milk and meat production.
According to climatic zoning of Bulgaria Elin Pelin municipality falls within the Southern Bulgarian temperate area.
The distribution of the rain falls determines the typical temperate character - a winter minimum and secondary minimum in late summer and maximum is in the early summer. The lowest precipitations in the valley are - 547 mm/sq m and the highest - in the mountainous parts - 832 mm/sq m snow in the period from November to April.
Forest destruction and replacement of a number of tree species are strongly changed habitats of wildlife. The fauna is highly poor in terms of species and decreased numbers. Wide sizes acquired soil erosion, resulting in a highly degraded soil. These are extremely negative environmental changes, most of them are irreversible. They are mainly due to the pollution of natural components and the environment as a whole.
Elin Pelin municipality is located close to major pollutants causing substantial negative changes. The most significant pollutants which should be given particular attention are the heavy metals. Once in the soil, they remain in it indefinitely. Hence gradually pass into the water and food and come to animals and humans. The situation is identical to the radioactive contamination of the soil.
In Elin Pelin municipality has established five primary schools, 8 secondary schools, one secondary school and a vocational school. In the education system employs 396 teachers and support staff. School "Vasil Levski" in Elin Pelin and the School of Ceramics and Glass of Elin Pelin determine schools. Both schools are revealed by studying language classes in English, French, Italian and Russian.
In Elin Pelin there registered municipal company "Medical Center"Sltd, which takes primary care of the population. Property of the former district hospital was distributed according to the law, between the center and the municipal hospital, which has three sections. Total population is served by 13 GPs. In the municipal hospital is located Emergency Medical Assistance as a unit to the Regional Hospital "Dr. Racho Angelov".
